January 2009-
This site is devoted to the enjoyment of beer and food.
There are many websites where you can find beer reviews. And countless more websites devoted to food, recipes, and the art of cooking. But practical information about enjoying good beer with good food is surprisingly hard to find.
Enter Beerlicious.
Beware that I’m no expert chef. I’m a busy family man who works full time — a husband and father of two young children. While I would love to enjoy world class gourmet meals every night, life gets in the way. I commonly prepare meals that rely heavily on prepackaged ingredients, like enchilada dinner kits. Pizza, burgers, and spaghetti also make frequent appearances at our table. But sometimes the mood hits and I go all out for something special.
To increase the depth and breadth of useful information on this site, I’ve invited several friends to be contributors. A couple have already begun posting and hopefully the others will jump in eventually. Some of them have more expertise in the foodie world than I do, so some of their offerings should help balance out my posts which may run heavy on stuff like beef stew, chinese take out, and barbeque.
Note that while I lament the unfortunate deficit between wine’s image as a fine beverage for connoisseurs and beer’s image as a bland, watery way to get buzzed at a ball game, I have no desire to see beer snobbery ever reach the level of wine snobbery. Beer should be accessible, enjoyable, and unpretentious. That will factor into the posts on this site.
Much of this site will feature trial and error. While I’ve been something close to obsessed with good beer for several years now, I have only recently started focusing much attention on which beers complement the meals I eat and which ones are disasters. I will post on my (sometimes random) attempts at food and beer pairings so you will know not only what works well, but also what should be avoided at all costs.
I hope you find it useful.

AWESOME. What a great idea. Looking forward to some mouth-watering pairings. And also wondering what craft brew goes best with pepperoni pizza. I’m more willing to splurge on beer than food, after all.

My current theory on pizza and beer is similar to my theory on food and wine. Just get what you like and forget about the pairings. If you have a favorite beer that you are in the mood for, drink that. I personally like to switch it up between the lightweights–Hefeweizens, Lagers, and other low abv beers.
